Producer: Travaglini
From one of the tiny, northeastern Piemontese communes comes this excellent value Nebbiolo, ready for drinking! Despite once being more famed than Barolo for Nebbiolo production, the phylloxera pest coupled with a disastrous run of vintages at the turn of the 20th century left Gattinara almost forgotten as an appellation. Luckily, the Travaglini family took it as their mission to reinstate the commune, and they are toady one of the foremost producers in the region. Aromas of red fruit, blackberry, plum and licorice dominate the nose, with tiny hints of vanilla and leather. The palate is full-bodied with intense red-fruit flavours, culminating in a long and smooth finish.
Food pairing: savour with a few antipasti, preferably including some truffles!
